Tar and chip is a paving method that combines an asphalt-based binder with aggregate stone to create a textured paved surface.
The process is different from traditional hot-mix asphalt paving. Rather than installing a uniform asphalt mixture, binder and aggregate are applied as part of the paving process.
The aggregate is then compacted into the binder, creating the characteristic stone-textured tar and chip surface.
